Workshop Overview
Duration: Typically takes about one hour to make a wreath. There will be two shifts for making wreaths during
the timeframe, 5-6pm and 6-7pm. We encourage you to come for the entire class to relax and enjoy the festive
atmosphere.
Materials Provided: Fresh evergreens (like fir, pine, cedar), wreath bases, wire, clippers, decorative elements
(such as pinecones), and pre-made bows.
Skill Level: Suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced crafters.
What to Expect
Introduction: The workshop usually begins with an introduction to the materials and tools.
Demonstration: Our instructors, Kathy Lepore and Stephanie Haug, demonstrate techniques for assembling
the wreath, including how to assemble branches, use the binding machine, and add decorations.
Hands-On Experience: Participants create their own wreaths, receiving guidance and tips along the way.
Personalization: You can customize your wreath with different types of greenery and decorations.
Tips for Attending
Dress Comfortably: Wear clothes that can get a little messy, and comfortable shoes. We may be outside for a
small portion of the wreath making, so dress warm.
Bring Your Own Tools/Decorations: If you have favorite gardening tools (like clippers or gloves), or a special
ribbon you’d like to use for a bow (1.5”-2” wire edged ribbon works the best) feel free to bring them.
Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask the instructor for help or tips throughout the process.
Proceeds from this event will benefit Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue. Mikey’s is a registered non-profit
organization, headquartered in the Tri-Cities in south-central Washington State. They focus mainly on saving
dogs that are at risk in our region and placing them with adopters throughout the Pacific Northwest. Most of
their dogs come from shelters in Washington & Idaho, where they are facing the threat of Euthanasia. Others
are released to them by private individuals who need medical help with their own dogs. Other dogs are strays,
either dumped or abandoned, that need a chance at a new life.
Kathy Lepore has been creating wreaths for about 18 years. Her brother introduced her to wreath making
when her and her mom would visit him and go to a nursery by his house. He would bring cuttings from his yard
and we would make wreaths using the machines at the nursery. She has been teaching middle school age
through adults to make wreaths for 15 years. She is retired, and donates her time and materials each holiday
season to raise money for non-profits across the state.
Stephanie Haug has known Kathy since Kathy was her high school guidance counselor, and has been working
with Kathy to make wreaths and raise money for various non-profits for the past six years. She works full-time
for the City of West Richland, but also owns a small crafting business, Samvia Designs.
